DOOR DING REPAIR IS A MESSY OPERATION!
Logline
Running late to return a video rental, a woman's already stressful evening takes a turn for the worst.
About
Given only 48 hours, a prompt ("something weird") and a prop (a Crocodile Dundee VHS tape), myself and a small team created The Door Dinger for our submission to the Movie Madness Direct to Video 48-Hour Film Fest. Co-Writer Nessie Stafford and I really wanted to capture the stress of our strict time limit within the film itself by maintaining a fast-pace and constantly escalating conflict. We took inspiration from flicks like After Hours, and thankfully production went much smoother than Janice's nightmarish video rental return. In the end we even managed to take home the award for "Best Use of Prompt/Prop"!

About
Returning for a second year, we set out once again with the same limitations. Only this time the prop came in the from of a "Movie Madness" branded lighter, and the prompt was "Bad Habits". Knowing we wanted to go bigger and better than our previous effort (not a good idea for 48 hour competitions, by the way), we gathered a sizable cast and crew beforehand. Once off to the races, we landed on an apocalyptic epic guided by premonitions and a down on his luck Satan (known here simply as "The Devil"). With its many moving parts, locations, characters and intense July heat, the shoot proved to be an enormous undertaking. The stress inflated just as much as our ambition did. But in the end we pulled it together, and that's ultimately the real victory of 48 hour.
